A Song for Holy Week: The Power of the Cross

A modern hymn that has been one of my favorites for several years is The Power of the Cross (Oh, to See the Dawn) by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend. If your congregation is not yet singing this song, I highly recommend it. For this Holy Week edition of the blog, I want to simply share the song with you. Sit back, listen. and take in the profound lyrics. I also have a link to the Getty’s website where you can download a free lead sheet for the song. The song is available on LifeWayWorship.com with full orchestration.

I encourage you to use this song in worship. If you use video, take time to select backgrounds that accentuate the meaning of the text.

This has become an absolute favorite of our congregation for several years. Not only does the music match the message and is very singable but the text is sound theology and a powerful testimony. I highly recommend it.

Really nice. Found it also on songselect / CCLI. For guitar, the chords are a bit nicer in the key of G and just capo on 3 to match the key of the video.

My favorite too. God is truly using folks like the Gettys and Townends to bring life back to our congregational singing!
